Google revealed that wireless support for the Stadia controller will only work with Chromecast Ultra.
Google announced that Stadia will be officially launched on 19 November. Google also revealed that wireless support for the Stadia controller will only work with the Chromecast Ultra when launched later.
The only hardware in the first-party streaming service is a controller that displays Stadia and Wi-Fi specific shortcuts. Google also promotes how the accessory's direct connectivity to Stadia instances in the cloud, allows users to experience the gaming experience with the lowest latency.
Through a video titled "All You Need to Know Before Launch" exposes Stadia's wireless controller. "At launch, wireless games with the Stadia controller are only available on TV using Chromecast Ultra," the video captions.
Previously the Google FAQ noted how to play games through Stadia on TV, how to use the Stadia controller, and Google Chromecast Ultra. Many people assume that the Stadia and Chromecast controllers are the only way to play on the big screen.
Although it is intended for TV, there are also wider limits as Google noted. "As for wireless gameplay, this is limited to Chromecast Ultra. When connected via a USB cable, the Stasia controller acts as a standard USB HID controller and can work on other platforms depending on the game and settings."
Fair if the user thinks playing on a big screen offers the best experience. But with the fact that the Stadia controller isn't fully wireless, the user must add a USB to connect it to the Chrome desktop, supported cellphone or tablet.
The latest video also shows a cable connection from the Stadia controller to Pixel and Pixelbook smartphones. One odd thing is how the Founder and Premiere Edition packages include USB A to USB C which supports most laptops. But this will be quite difficult for owners of Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 because it requires an additional adapter. But it seems that this will be overcome by Google in the future.
