In the 2019 Qualcomm 5G Summit, Oppo stated openly that it would present a smartphone with dual mode 5G support later this year.
Oppo will launch a smartphone with dual mode 5G capabilities later this year. This was conveyed directly by Henry Tang, Chief of Oppo 5G Scientist at the 2019 Qualcomm 5G Summit held in Barcelona. In his presentation, Henry Tang mentioned that the smartphone will come with a chipset made by Qualcomm.
Basically, that's the Qualcomm chip that makes this Oppo latest smartphone will support dual mode 5G. That is, this smartphone will support networks with standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes.
To note, SA and NSA are two 5G connection lines. Currently, 5G smartphones only come with NSA mode support. This network is in line with 3GPP specifications. The 5G NSA network is still supported by 4G infrastructure.
In contrast to SA. This mode will only be used when the 5G infrastructure is fully available. This mode will offer super low latency and its use will be wider than the NSA mode.
On the Oppo official website (17/10), Oppo states that it has submitted more than 2500 global patents and announced more than 1000 patents of the 5G standard to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). Not only that, this Chinese company has also registered 3000 documents relating to the 5G standard.
"Oppo's relentless efforts and partners in other industries have paved the way for faster adoption of 5G, with users in certain countries and regions already being early adopters of Oppo 5G smartphones. We hope that our 5G dual-mode offering will provide a superior experience for more consumers in more global markets, making 5G available to a wider consumer base throughout the world, "said Henry Tang.
Tang also added that Oppo is currently working with global operators to accelerate the commercialization of 5G in the world. Going forward, Oppo will introduce 5G products in the global market.
Until now, details about the 5G dual mode device from Oppo are still unknown. Despite stating that the end of the year will launch, Oppo has not given a definite time when the device will be present.
