JD.com launches a logistics park supported by the 5G network. This facility is claimed to increase operations and drive the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) strategy. Located in Beijing, this logistics facility has a new monitoring system that can detect problems that occur in real-time.
The company says 5G provides bandwidth that increases the efficiency of its IIoT capabilities on a large scale. In addition, the 5G network also facilitates instant communication between staff and their machines. With a real-time monitoring system, the company can track the location and forklift routes - transport used to lift heavy loads, and receive warnings if there are errors.
As an illustration, one of the scenarios is where the system detects a forklift that is parked in the wrong location or takes an inappropriate route. Pamantau pallet - a component supporting heavy goods, also significantly improves efficiency compared to mass monitors.
"The 5G system will also greatly improve the efficiency of operations within the facility through smart parking that guides vehicles into the most appropriate parking spaces or docks, and digital docks can facilitate real-time monitoring," said JD Logistic.
This is part of the company's plan to utilize 5G technology with IIoT to encourage further application in JD.com's logistics operations and improve efficiency of the entire supply chain. The company said the technology will be used throughout its logistics park to enable reliable robot-to-robot communication and reduce human intervention.
"Low latency, high speed and the ability to support the wide spectrum of simultaneous connections provided by the 5G network, create an unprecedented level of real-time time. Connectivity significantly increases the efficiency of the JD fulfillment operation, which is key to providing the best service for customers in business, "said Zhe Wenming Chief Architect and Head of Logistics Park JD Logistics.
